Robots for Kids: Top Robotics Resources

Kids are fascinated with robots, they love watching robot films and cartoons. Now you get educational robots as well that can dance & walk and also teach them important scientific concepts. Kids love their gizmos and introducing them to robotics will help them indulge in their fascination and interest with robots.

You also get robotic kits that comes with complete building instructions, that let your child build and program all sorts of robots. With these kits, your little one can build the Transformer of his/her dreams. Learning how to build a robot is also a great way to re-use household junk and turn it into great free crafts for kids.

You could even enroll your child for Robotics workshops that help children develop skills like teamwork, co-operation, innovation and creativity. It encourages kids to redesign, use their imagination and solve the problem in hand creatively.

They get an opportunity to construct things, use their theories and build things which also help them in the future course of their lives and careers.

Robot to teach in Mumbai institute

robot in education

Humanoid robot ‘Mitra’, which welcomed PM Modi and Ivanka Trump at an event last year, will co-teach students at The Indian School of Management and Entrepreneurship (ISME) in Lower Parel from the next academic year starting July.

“This will be done in phases. In the first phase, we will use it for admission counselling, responding to FAQs and handling enrolment formalities. In the second phase, we will program it for delivering lectures, explaining concepts and answering students’ questions. Since this is based on artificial intelligence (AI), the robot will learn with each step. The more they interact, the more they learn,” said Imran Kapadia, chief digital officer at the institute.

“The future of education is in AI (artificial intelligence), AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). That’s why we ordered the bot,” said Dr Indu Shahani, president and chairperson, ISME and Indian School of Design and innovation (ISDI). ISME has two other smaller robots programmed to teach yoga to students. “They do not speak or learn, but do activities which are pre-fed,” Kapadia said.

Mitra is an indigenous robot, built by Bengaluru-based Invento Robotics. The fivefoot high humanoid has a fibre glass body and a touchscreen on its chest. It comes with facial recognition technology and understands different languages. The company sells different versions of the robot, customized for different sectors.

Mitra made headlines when it welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump’s daughter and White House advisor Ivanka Trump at an event last year.
