Viruses are a type of germs. They are very tiny, non-living micro-organisms. When they get inside our body they can make us sick Viruses cause cold, chicken pox, flu, and many other diseases.

Viruses are so small that that can be seen only through a microscope.

How does virus make us sick?

To survive, a virus needs a living body like that of humans, animals and plants. It attacks the cells in our body and begins to multiply. It blocks the cells and slowly infects our body, making us sick.

How do viruses spread?

As viruses are small and lightweight, they can float through air, survive in water or even on the surface of our skin. Viruses can be passed from one person to another by shaking hands, touching food, through water or through air when a person sneezes or coughs. Some passed through insect bites, animals, bad food.

How are viruses treated?

Viruses can only be treated by building the immune system of our body. This will help the cells to block the viruses and keep up healthy. Scientists have developed vaccines to help our bodies build up immunity against the viruses.

How can we avoid getting infected?

A few simple things that can protect us from getting infected by viruses:

  • Washing hands clean with soap and water.
  • Do not put hands or fingers in our mouth, our body. 01 nose or eyes as it can cause a virus to enter
  • Wash fruits and vegetables before eating.
  • Eat well-cooked food and drink plenty of water.
  • Sleep well and exercise regularly to strengthen your immune system to fight of viruses.
